St. Pierre and Mount Pelee volcano

The harbor of St. Pierre lies at the foot of Mt. Pelee volcano.  St. Pierre was known as the Paris of the Caribbean because the richest planations on the island were here.  It is said that the volcano started to rumble but the islanders wouldn't leave.  There was a population of 30,000 and 29,933 burned to death from the superheated gas that flowed down over the city releasing more energy than an atomic blast.    Many ruins still remain.  Post disaster buildings have been built onto old structures so many new buildings share at least one wall with the past.

We met a really nice couple, John and Linda Moorhead, living aboard their catamaran from Texas.  Here is a picture of their boat Kool Kat leaving St. Pierre.

Some of you may get tired of my sunset pics and my sunrises.  The reflection of the sunset with Mt. Pelee in the background was spectacular.  I hope you enjoy.

Final delight was a full moon.

See ya on the big blue watery road, Theresa
